PCSWA would like to bring attention to Bereavement Consultant Kristin Bindley’s recently published article – Caring Precariously: An interpretive description of palliative care and welfare worker perspectives on end of life carers.
The paper reports findings from Kristin’s PhD research, which arose from her immersion in clinical practice as a social worker and bereavement counsellor in Western Sydney; an area of recognised relative socioeconomic disadvantage. Kristin’s PhD findings highlight experiences of disadvantage in bereavement, which appear to accumulate for carers already positioned as vulnerable, and can be related to pre-existing financial strain associated with caring at end-of-life.
Kristin’s article was chosen by the Editor-in-Chief of Palliative Medicine as the “Editor’s Choice”, in the official research journal of the European Association of Palliative Care. This is a fantastic achievement and is testament to Kristin’s outstanding efforts as a social work researcher.
