By Victoria’s PCSWA Network Co-convenors Jo Wood and Laura Green

On Thursday 27th August we had the privilege of launching the PCSWA Victorian Network. Fifty social workers from across Victoria (metro and regional) registered for the event, and it was amazing to meet such a diverse group of people who share a passion for palliative, end-of-life and bereavement care.

The early feedback we have received has been supportive and encouraging, with many becoming members of PCSWA following the session. Those who attended were very interested in hearing about the broader vision, goals and objectives of the alliance, including peer support and the promotion and advancement of our profession.

Some of the comments we received included, “I found the group wonderful, and everyone seemed so enthusiastic and keen to step out of silos and come together” and “it is a really exciting space to be in and long overdue”. There was definitely a feeling that social workers employed in this space are craving connection, support and the opportunity to be involved in a grass roots initiative.

A big thank you to the national committee for all of the support they have provided. We both feel committed, enthusiastic and excited about the future potential of the network!
